Copy Your Address Book From AOL, Juno or Hotmail

How to copy your AOL or Hotmail address book to Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, Gmail or Yahoo.

Create a new Email message in AOL or Hotmail.
Open your address book and select all addresses by clicking on the first address then while holding down the shift key, click on the last address then click Send TO.
If that didn't work, you will have to click on each address individually and click Send To.
This should put all the addresses in the TO: field of the new message.

Open up Notepad or Wordpad (found at Start/Programs/Accessories) , then copy and paste the addresses from the TO field to Notepad/Wordpad.

What! You mean you don't know how to copy and paste?
Its very easy.
1. Highlight the stuff (text) to be copied by holding the left mouse button down and not releasing it until you have highlighted all the text. now release the button.
2. next right click on the highlighted text then left click on the Copy in the menu. .(note: if nothing happens with right click, go to the top of the page and select "Edit/Copy").
3. right click in Notepad/Wordpad area and select Paste from the menu.

Outlook Express and the other email programs allow importing of addresses in a CSV (Comma Separated Values) format.
Note: A person from the Czech Republic said that he had to use semicolons instead of comma's. So maybe Eastern Europe windows is different.

After you paste the addresses in Notepad or Wordpad, the will look like this: address xxx, address xxx, address xxx, address xxx, address xxx, etc...

In Notepad or Wordpad the addresses will have to be made to look like the following. {Remember, this is comma separated values so there must be a comma between items like Email Address, First name, Last name. After Last name there is a new line (Enter key).

The way to edit would be to add the first name, and last name, AFTER each address,
like this address, first name, last name
Important, after entering each last name, press the Enter key so you have a list like this:

address1, first name1, last name1
address2, first name2, last name2
address3, first name3, last name3
address4, first name4, last name4
etc...

Now you must save this file as type csv file (use any name you want such as address.csv)
CSV is just a text file, but must have the extension .csv to be recognized by Outlook Express, Yahoo Mail or by a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel.
When in the Save window of Notepad, change the "Save as type" to "All Files(*.*)", then type in the File name with the .csv extension and click Save.  see picture below:

Also, Wordpad needs to change the type to a Text file before you can put the .csv extension on the file name.

Import the .csv file into the email contacts/address book..

I know, it sounds like a lot, but it imports the addresses very quick and also saves them in a file that you can use to print or transfer to some other email program like Yahoo, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc...

Good luck, and if you have a problem with this, you can email me at cugoyaz@gmail.com
