Want To Make Screen Captures (Screen Shots)?
The one thing has always perplexed us though. Many times we will see pictures on your tutorials of programs or how to do something. And it looks like you've taken pictures of your desktop and programs that you are running. We would like to do that but we can't figure out how. Can you tell us how you make those pictures?

Answer Here's a couple of ways to make a screen shot. Let's say you want to take a screen shot of your desktop or a program running on your desktop. Or anything at all on your desktop.

Step #1 - Open your favorite image viewer/editor (we suggest Irfanview). You may also use MS PAINT which is on every Windows system To open MS PAINT click Start the Run and type in MSPAINT.

Step #2 - To take a screen shot of your entire desktop area (assuming you're viewing your desktop) click the PrtScr (Print Screen) key.

Step #3 - Go to your image viewer/editor that you opened in step #1 and click Edit then Paste

Step #4 - Choose "FILE" then "Save As" and give your file a name. Save in a location that is convenient for you - like on your desktop or in "My Documents" or "My Pictures". Be sure to save your file as a JPG (JPEG) or GIF. Do not save it as a BMP format because Bitmaps (BMP) are very large in size and not convenient for emailing or use on the Web.

Hint: If you want to take a screen shot of only one window (or program) on your desktop, follow the instructions above - but make sure the window you want the screen shot of is in focus (click on it to bring it in focus) and instead of clicking the PrtScr (Print Screen) alone, click the "ALT" + "PrtScr" keys. Now you'll have a screen shot of the program window instead of your entire desktop.
